Northam Platinum Processing plants needs a fire prevention and control system design to be done to ensure that they comply with all the relevant standards, to ensure the safety and health of all employees should a major fire erupt at the plants. The system should also cater for the minimum amount of loss to the existing infrastructure. The processing plants consist of the Smelter Complex, Slag Plant and the BMR Plant and all other auxiliary buildings

Services provided:

The fire prevention and control system will be designed for the Smelter Complex Slag Plant, the BMR Plant and all other auxiliary buildings.

3D scanning and 3D modelling will be executed at the process plants and auxiliary buildings. A 3D model will be developed in accordance with EPCM 3D Model Design Guidelines (included in Annexure C) for the equipment stipulated within the battery limits of the design based on the 3D scans taken.

A detailed engineering design of the fire prevention and control system will be developed using the 3D scans and -model. All relevant specifications, such as pipe sizes, flanges, valves, pumps, gantry designs, pipe supports, and construction materials, will be included in the designs.

The system design will be signed off by a licensed fire engineer and will be submitted together with a detailed data pack including all the drawings, 3D scans and design information.

The duration of the project will be 45 days and the following deliverables will be provided:

  • 3D scan of the allocated area;
  • 3D model of the allocated area;
  • Engineering designs of the fire prevention and control system; and
  • Detailed data pack including all the drawings and 3D scans.
