EPCM raised equity funding to buy two quartzite dumps containing gold particles. The dumps are located between Potchefstroom and Stilfontein (North West Province) which were regarded by many as waste dumps. EPCM’s scope is the physical screening activities which commenced after laser scanning 3D modelling of the complete site and a rigorous testing phase. The lab tests were conducted on site samples to determine which sections of the two dumps contained the most gold. It was established that most of the gold particles were contained in the fines. The 3D modelling together with lab tests assisted EPCM in project planning and optimisation. Gold particles are currently being recovered from the process.
Scope of Work:
- Laser Scanning 3D modelling of waste dumps.
- Lab testing to establish gold content in waste dumps.
- Screening of quartzite material to obtain gold particles in fines.
- Transporting screened fine material to processing plants for gold extraction.
