EPCM Consultans SA developed a small scale de-polymerization unit that uses a pyrolysis reaction and a series of catalytic convertors to produce a diesel equivalent liquid product.
The de-polymerization unit consists of 2 containers, a process and a storage container, that can be located at the feed source to reduce the cost of transport.
It is the intention to use plastic feedstock that cannot be recycled currently in South Africa. The plastic is shredded and fed into a pyrolysis reactor. Filtered crude plastic oil from the reactor will be fed through an acid absorber unit which will protect the downstream equipment against PVC components in the feed.
This will be followed by catalytic convertor reactors, coolers and and KO drums to split the products into a crude Naphtha and Diesel equivalent fuels as well as residual light end gas components, of which partially used as fuel in the reactor, and as a fuel gas product
