EPCM was tasked to assit Group 5 during the commissioning phase of an EPC contract to engineer, procure and construct a 340MW co-generation close cycle turbine power generation station in Tema, Ghana. The station was designed to run on Natural gas, diesel and Light Crude Oil (LCO). Group 5 has carried out commissioning of the KIPP station using diesel for start-up and LCO as the prime fuel supply. During the initial start-up a number of filter changes in the filter skid to the Gas Turbines were carried out, and fiters regularly blocked up indicating a contaminated or off-spec fuel.
EPCM carried out a detailed investigation as to the cause of the filter blockages. EPCM reviewed the process and equipment regarding fuel oil treatment and tests, due-dillingence and checks were carried out on the commissioning operations. EPCM made recommendations on possible casues of the leakages and the root causes of the fuel contamination.
EPCM have been engaged to assist in the commissioning and to identify the cause of the filter blockages resulting in suspending finalising the commissioning of the power station.
