The Saint Helena airport facility project involved the full engineering review of shore loading facilities, supply pipelines, aviation storage depot, feeder lines and hydrant facilities.
Saint Helena island is located in the South Atlantic Ocean. In 2005 the British government announced plans to develop an airport on Saint Helena Island. Construction started in 2012 and the first aircraft landed in 2015.
The objective of the project was to do a full Engineering review on the specified airport facilities. This review was done to ensure that the facilities are adequate and complete for the airport and to ensure that the facilities can accommodate the desired volumes.
The project scope included a full Piping and Instrumentation(P&ID’s) drawing review. The review was done for the shore loading facilities, supply pipelines, aviation storage depot, feeder lines and hydrant facilities. All the drawings were reviewed and comments were given to adjust accordingly to ensure that all the systems are correct and best practice.
The project was completed in various phases spanning three years. This would involve the construction of the entire airport facility. The Engineering review of the P&ID’s formed part of this project.
The First Aircraft was expected to land in September 2015 and it was crucial to ensure that all the systems were correct before that date.
EPCM was appointed as Engineers for the project and are working with the Encon to achieve the optimal design and assist the client to ensure that all the standard and requirements are met.
